How to install Vista from recovery partition?

I have a Dell Inspiron 518, and it is my friend's PC. It has Vista 32 bit Home Premium. He wanted XP on it and go it for him, but then now he changed his mind. He had a RECOVERY partition on the D drive. So I didn't format that just the C drive, I also made a back up of the D drive. He has Windows XP Pro 32 bit. How do I get it back?

According to Dell, the Inspiron 518 does not have a recovery partition on the hard drive, but assuming they are wrong and you are right, you need to press and hold down F8 as soon as you turn it on.
