Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me. I have just upgraded my Z68XP-UD3P bios to UEFI. I tired to install Win 7 ultimate 64bit in UEFI. In UEFI bios, the CDRom is seen as UEFI and is set to the only boot device. But it just won't boot to it so I cannot install Win 7. Can anyone help?

I don't have a similar board to test.

It appears Win7 discs weren't signed for secure boot, so you need to disable that.

This might help: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/186875-uefi-unified-extensible-firmware-interface-install-windows-7-a.html

It appears to mention that you need a retail disc, which implies OEM/System Builder ones might not have UEFI support. Try burning a USB with the ISOs from here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/cannot-find-digital-river-download-site/66a8439b-0d16-4b70-92f7-1c8486a46ebf

Thank you very much for your quick response. But if I set it to boot to legacy, then it won't install OS in UEFI? No? It seems that all the articles I read saying specifically select EFI cdrom, not the SATA one. Yes, I see both of them. And yes, when I set it to legacy, it boots but it won't install OS in UEFI mode. Or do I need to delete the existing partition on the HD first? Thanks for your help in advance.

The intended C drive is 1.5Tb. I have a 128 gb SSD but I am going to run Intel RST with that. Then I have a 1TB as drive D. This already has all my files on it.

Hi, Thankyou very much for your comment. Yes, I know that. That in fact was the main drive of my daughter's machine. Her one has just been upgraded to 300 gb. So, instead of spending money on getting a large size SSD, I thought I would try out the Intel RST and see if it gives a little bit more ump to the system. I am still loading up software so hopefully I will know if it benefit in a few days. By the way, do you know how to install Win 7 ultimate 64bit in UEFI, using a Z68XP-UD3P motherboard? It has not been successful for me so far. The motherboard see the CDRom as UEFI device but it just won't boot to it. I have a retail version of Win 7 ultimate. It works perfectly fine if I set the motherboard to boot to SATA cdrom (same rom drive so it rules out cdrom being faulty).

Solution
Thank you very much for your help. The links you provided are great help. I have something to work on now. By the way, the Intel RST is causing a lot of problems. Different software crashing at different points. Not sure if it is the UEFI BIOS causing it. It is a beta version apparently from Gigabyte for this version of motherboard. And because I am not familiar with UEFI, I may have set up the UEFI incorrectly, especially with the hard disks. I think the files are not "written" correctly during download, well, I am guessing really. So, installed software crashed intermittenly. Uninstalled it. Downloaded it again, installed it again seemed to work fine. But then I proceeded to run software that I had downloaded ages ago, it just "stopped", said "application failed". All the hardware were working without any problem before I upgraded the bios to UEFI. Now, I cannot revert back, still waiting from Gigabyte's reply on how to revert my motherboard from UEFI to preious version. Anyway, that will be another story. Thank you very much for your help. Thank you.
