Solution

What drivers are not installed? Sometimes, the Windows itself can find and download the proper drivers through its WINDOWS UPDATE feature (turn it on and let it do its job). If the Win Update can't find the appropriate drivers, you could try to use the VISTA drivers (download them from HP, just be sure they are for the same OS variant, 32- or 64-bit, as your Win7 installation), or use the latest drivers from the audio/video/network controller manufacturers.

Hello,

Win 7 works good even on old Pentium/Pentium D systems; in your case, it could be some piece of HP firmware which prevents a proper Win 7 install. In BIOS put the SATA in IDE (Legacy) mode, maybe the built-in Win7 drivers don't work with RAID/AHCI mode. Also, check for latest BIOS version for the motherboard.

Dear Cristi72
U mean to say i have to remove my Sata hard and bring IDE hard to Instal win 7?
and one thing i have updated bios but still win 7 not start

No, you will use the same SATA HDD; the SATA ports can run in native mode (SATA, AHCI - for best performance), in IDE mode (ATA, Compatibility, Legacy - slower speeds, but compatible with most OSes), or in RAID mode (when use an array of HDDs). So you must check in BIOS what settings the SATA ports have and try to run them in IDE mode.

One more thing: when installing Win7, have you performed a clean install (by formatting the HDD) or an upgrade from XP/Vista?

Cristi

and there is also no driver for hp xw4400 workstation
any how if I get succeed installing win 7 then there is another problem how to get drivers?

Plz guide me properly sir i shall be very thank full to u.

and one thing more what if, i update system from xp to vista?
is vista good window?
if good then which version is best in Vista?

You could install a trial version of Win7 on the D partition (when installing, use the CUSTOM setting and pick the D partition for installing, just be sure you have at least 15GB free space on it) and, if it works (having all drivers and such), buy a legit Win version. Firstly though you must change in BIOS the SATA setting from RAID-AHCI to ATA-IDE (press F10 upon boot, goto STORAGE --> STORAGE OPTIONS --> SATA Emulation --> IDE setting.

If you cannot install Win7, Win 8.1 will not work either, as it needs an UEFI BIOS for its full potential and will not have the software support for such old motherboards as yours.

Vista is actually a decent OS, but you must perform some additional steps in order to work properly:

I don't recommend you to make an upgrade, go for a clean install.

By the way, if you already have a working OS, what is the reason you want to change it?
