How to install Windows 8.1 on a new HDD

I just replaced my laptop's hard drive and I want to install Windows 8.1. Every time I start up the laptop, the screen stays black and nothing pops up and suddenly it shuts off even though it's plugged in and charging. I need help. I have an HP Pavilion dv7-1132nr. I replaced its 250GB hard drive with a 500GB one.

To start with, you probably want to go into the BIOS and reset it to default or optimal settings and see if the hard drive is being recognized. Might be a bad drive. Try booting it with no drive installed, see if you can get into the bios to reset, and then install the drive.
