Hello. I bought a new laptop, Dell Inspiron 3558 pre-installed with Ubuntu 14.04 SP1 and I tried to install windows 7 and I got the "windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style" error while trying to install windows and I deleted 1 partition and now I can't install windows and Ubuntu won't start up anymore getting grub error. I'm new to linux and I have no idea what to do now. Thank you.

EDIT: It appears the OS partition is still there I didn't delete that one so is there any way at least to get back the Ubuntu working?

Hi,

If you delete the GPT you cant boot OS any more. I am not sure what are you doing but on theory you should be able to install Windows. Check your BIOS setup to be sure and when it boot delete all partitions and make a clean installation.

P.S.: Keep in mind if you are not that experience in OS installation you should go to specialist and pay him to do it.

How?
Edit: Since the OS was still on the hard drive I booted on UEFI and Ubuntu installed again. Now how do I install windows 7? I don't mind having Ubuntu and Windows at the same time.

Luckily I learn fast. As I said I didn't delete the OS Linux boot that was on the laptop and I managed to install Ubuntu again. But how do I change it to Windows 7? I still get the GPT error while trying to install the windows on any partition.

You need to reformat the drive it wont install on a gpt partition when you try to install windows in disk selection there should be an option to delete partitions just delete everything you see and then select and format it to ntfs and should allow the install.

Thank you for you answers. @esco_sid was somehow right, I just found another way. Opened command prompt and cleaned all partitions with disk clean 0 and I was able to install windows. Thank you again.
