How to install windows without losing files

I have heard that when switching from amd to intel processor, you need to install a fresh copy of windows. Is this true? If so how can i do so without losing ANY files or programs that i have installed?

You can't. Whenever you change motherboard you really should do a fresh Windows install, not just when switching AMD/Intel. Backup your important data, format the drive and install a fresh copy.

Also which version of Windows are you running and is it a full retail licence, OEM or did it come pre installed? Swapping motherboards could invalidate your Windows licence in some cases so we need to check this information.

as posted above you should do a clean install. the dirty tech trick is before you pull apart the old pc boot into safe mode and uninstall alll of the system devices. if your lucky windows will post and install the newest drivers and not blue screen. as a tech you go 50/50 chance of it booting without any issues.

sizzling is correct to avoid unpredicted failures you should do clean install on you OS. If you have install Win10 you may have issue because the license is connected to MB SN and for sure you change MB when you change CPU from Intel to AMD. Also if you have newer CPU and your current OS is for example Win7 x.x you may need to install Win10 because there is no support for you new CPU in Win7 (MS stuff). In order to help you we would need version of you old OS, model of you new CPU and MB. If you change the OS from Win7 to Win10 because of your new CPU/MB you the application may not be compatible with new OS too. If you dont have experience with installing/reintalling HW and SW at this level my suggestion is some one who have to do it for you.

I am running Windows 10 enterprise fully activated. License keys are not an issue as I can get more. I upgraded from vista a year ago to win10.
