What OS came on your system, Vista?

First, download all of your XP drivers from Dell support and save them on a USB stick.

Boot from the XP installer disk and hit Shift + F10 to get a command prompt window. In that window type:

diskpart
list disk
select disk n (the disk that you want to erase and install XP to)
delete

Reboot with the XP disk in and you should be good to go. HERE are some other handy commands during XP preinstall environment.

Yes, it came in with vista home premium, and i wasnt using the system until this point where the one who I had given it for use has put an unofficial windows 7 instead of vista it had and i want to either restore to the original vista or new xp, btw is restoring to original vista possible? i cant see the advanced boot option anywhere and dont know how to restore to factory settings, there is no option like that.
Thats why i thought of getting xp sp3.

One more thing, when I boot from xp cd, it directly takes me to the setup and how do i go to command prompt from there, what happens if I just let the installation continue?

If you have a full Vista installer disk it will work, but not if it is just an OEM recovery disk. Windows XP may install over 7, give it a try and use a custom install, then delete all partitions and install to the single remaining unpartitioned space.
