If I shut my screen off, my iPhone turns off the video from Videos app. I mainly needed the audio but I only had mp4 copies available. Anyways, point is, if I even exit the Videos app, the audio goes away and it pauses. It won't turn back on from the control center either.
The files were transferred via iTunes.
Is there a tweak that will let me play the video even as my phone is off?

Thanks!

Exactly what I suggested. :/
Also update your phone to the latest IOS when you can, there is an exploit that has been fixed by Apple that previously allowed Spyware to get into your phone. An Israeli arms dealer used it as a method of spying.
I don't recommend jailbreaking your phone just to play audio from video, just convert to MP3, there is no other way.

I know, that's why I'm asking here if there is a setting or something I can download that will let me keep the mp4 file playing

I don't see a problem there:
You can convert a copy of the video file and still keep the original video file. If size (after duplicating) is a problem you can compress the audio file as necessary, and you can save extra file on a computer.

The tip is for a video app meant for youtube downloads and I'd suppose online viewing also, and comments also mention other video apps they use for the same purpose.
