How to keep Win 10 from downloading an older driver and replacing newer driver?

Due to AMD and their :fou: hosery I'm forced to continue to use an old driver, version 17.2.1, due to games crashing with anything newer But here is the issue: Windows keeps replacing my GPU driver with an even older driver, version 17.1.1, which makes some games lag like Sniper Elite 4 as an example. Windows is doing this through windows updates.

So other than turning off automatic updates how do I stop Windows from changing my GPU driver on me?

OK I did as you mentioned and it did not help. Some how it is back on 17.1.1 again. I did look through the link you provided and in that article it had steps after selecting "no" that did not show up on my OS. This may be because it was written for an earlier version of Win 10, I have the creators version, or for Win 8 IDK but thought I should mention this just in case it is relevant.

Any more suggestions on what to try?

Update: Since the issue kept happening even after checking "No" in Device Installation Settings I decided to try something slightly different. Every time the driver was changed by Windows Update I would wipe the driver using a combination of both AMD CleanUpUtility and Driver Fusion topped off by Ccleaner for registry entry's to ensure everything was uninstalled so I could do a clean install of the driver. This time I just rolled back the driver and it has seemed to stick... so far it has been two days with no driver reversions. I looked up the update history and one day it changed my driver 4 times that day back to a Driver I didn't want installed.

If this driver finally stays installed I would have to say a combination of both turning Device Installation Settings to "No" and rolling back the driver is the solution but I won't be sure for a few more days but this seems to be the case currently. For some reason just telling it not to install drivers for 3rd party vendors did not seem to stop windows from installing the driver anyways on my machine, this is after many different restarts.
