How to keep your os for new drive

i was wondering how to keep my os windows 7 when upgrading my hard drive I don't have any discs my computer didn't came with discs.

do you have a dvd burner? you can create your own back up discs

Back up discs are merely to rebuild the computer to its original state with installed programs and what not, they will not install the OS onto a bare drive normally. If its a prebuilt you may not be able to transition your OS onto a new drive through a clean install. When i had to swap out the drive in an old HP i ended up mirroring the old drive onto a new one to preserve the OS and files.
