Deathclaws are easily the most terrifying thing to encounter in the commonwealth. With proper preparation, they don't have to be though.
Step 1) Suit up.
When hunting deathclaws, a suit of power armor is very helpful. If they get close to you and you aren't wearing power armor, it's entirely possible that they will kill you in one blow, this will give you the room to make some mistakes and let them get close if everything goes wrong.
Step 2) Set your trap.
If you go charging into a deathclaw guns a blazing.. there's a good chance the deathclaw is going to chuckle and smack you down. Okay, I'm not sure what a deathclaw's chuckle would sound like, but probably terrifying. Your best bet is to play it smart and set a trap to draw it into. I like setting up a line of mines myself. If you have a mininuke to spare though, dropping one beside a mine can be a lot of fun, when the deathclaw runs over the mine the explosion will set off the mini nuke and blow that deathclaw sky high.
Step 3) Lure it in.
Deathclaws need to close to melee range, so it should be easy to force them to run over your minetrap. Get a high powered rifle and crouch to take your first shot, you'll get the bonus of some sneak attack damage, and it'll take off charging at you, hopefully over those mines you set up.
Step 4) Back up!
It's time to run and gun, keep firing at it as it charges at you, while backing up. Make sure you don't back up in a way that is going to throw it off track for running over your mines though! Between your shots and the mines, there's a good chance you should be able to bring most deathclaws down before they even get in range to hit you back!
