How to know if a USB FlashDrive supports a Super Speed USB 3.0 port?

Hi

I have purchased a Philips USB Flash Drive.
There is no a USB 3.0/ 2.0 typed on its package/cover.
Only this information below are typed on the cover of it.

But while connecting that Flash Drive above to a USB 2.0 port of my laptop, there is no a pop-up message telling me 'This USB Mass Storage device can transfer information faster if you connect it to a Super Speed USB 3.0 port'. However, while connecting another KingStone FlashDrive written on its package/cover "USB 3.0/2.0" to a USB 2.0 port of my laptop, then there is a pop-up message telling me 'This USB Mass Storage device can transfer information faster if you connect it to a Super Speed USB 3.0 port'.

As a result, I have found out that KingStoen supports both of a Super Speed USB 3.0 port' and a normal Speed USB 2.0 port'

However, I still don't know if the Philips USB Flash Drive supports both of a Super Speed USB 3.0 port' and a normal Speed USB 2.0 port' or NOT.

I have checked the device manager while Philips USB Flash Drive is connected, but I didn't see anything telling me if it supports both of USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports.

It should work in both but according to this it's USB 2

Any USB 2 flash drive, will work in a USB 3 port or vice versa

If you look into the plug on the drive you should be able to see 5 extra contacts at the back inside of the plug.

If you have those it is a USB 3.0 stick, but as the Paul NZ says, USB 3.0 drives work on 2.0 ports(at usb 2.0 speeds) and most(some devices do not work like the HDPVR) usb 2.0 devices can work on a 2.0 port(at 2.0 speeds again).

Yes, that is right, but the difference in performance would be striking if a USB flash drive supports USB 3.0, and is connected to a USB 3.0 of a computer.
Yes, but I have told the merchant to send me a USB Flash Drive supporting 3.0/2.0. So, he sold me a USB flash drive(32GB) only supporting 2.0 for a price($18) with which I can purchase another Flash supporting 3.0/2.0

The only diff is a USB 2 flash drive may not be as fast as a USB 3 one. There's not really much diff. And you really cant tell.

Both still work in a USB 2 / 3 port

This is very true. Blue tends to be used when something is new(for some reason or another). When USB 2.0 came out all ports and connectors had been blue for a while too. I have seen black USB 3.0 ports.

So, if this has been faced with me, how to know if it is USB 3.0 or not as long as connectors of some USB 3.0 ports can be black?

Yes some can be black(Noticed it on some laptops). They normally have the SS-USB logo next to them to indicate 3.0

You can also see just by looking at the connectors. The extra 5 connectors are what allow usb 3.0 speeds. The other 4 contacts are for USB 2.0 and allow for backwards compatibility.
