Question how to know what is compatible

so i have a ROG strix x370-f gaming (AMD) motherboard and i'm thinking of getting a m.2 drive. (Samsung 980 PRO 2 TB PCIe 4.0 M.2)
is this compatible with that motherboard and what should I be looking for in order to find out for myself?

you look at the specs of the mobo to know what it can and can't do

that is a pcie 3 mobo so it only has a pcie 3 m.2 slot and not pcie 4

so you can save money and just get a 3.0x4 drive such as the 970 evo plus if you want to stick with samsung. the second m.2 slot on the mobo is only sata so even a 970 evo is more than needed for the second slot if you chose to go there.
