The Windows Insider Program is a very useful feature for lovers or writers of tech such as me, but does demand a lot in return. It means one of my computers is always running an early or beta version of some OS or software and that I’m always playing with it to see if I can break something. However, there is much to be said for a stable, predictable Windows 10 build. So if you’re looking to leave the Windows Insider Program for PC and mobile, I understand where you’re coming from.
Leave the Windows Insider Program for PC and mobile
Microsoft said Windows 10 is their final Windows OS with future releases being overlaid onto what we already have. Now nobody actually believes that claim but for the next few years at least, we have what we have. Microsoft have committed to incremental improvements to the core OS, so the benefits of the Windows Insider Program are now not as compelling as they once were.
So here is how to leave the PC version.
1. Navigate to Settings, Update & security and Windows Insider Program.
2. Click the box that says ‘Stop Insider Preview builds’.
3. Click ‘Need to stop getting Insider builds completely?’.
4. Confirm and restart your computer for the change to take effect.
It is much the same process on Windows 10 phone:
1. Navigate to Settings, Update & security and Windows Insider Program on your phone.
2. Tap the box that says ‘Stop Insider Preview builds’.
3. Tap ‘Need to stop getting Insider builds completely?’.
4. Confirm and select a time period.
5. Select ‘Release Preview’ from the Insider level section
