Hello All. I have a Gainward GTX570 phantom (nvidia geforce gtx 570) and it crashes on heavy games. I can limit the power consumption to below 270W or (60% for this card) but don't know how. Can anyone help. EVGA precision X had the bars locked, and MSI afterburner was tricky to use. All suggestions are welcome.
my rig:
Intel core 2 quad q8200
8gb ddr2 ram
128ssd+1tb hdd
cooling is perfect
PSU: one 300W for the system and another 300w for the gpu alone

also does anyone know another cause for the gpu crashes.

The crashes are either because there is something wrong with the GPU or more likely the PSU running it cannot provide the power it needs. You need to lower the power limit on the GPU, MSI Afterburner should offer this option, its right on the screen when you startup.

In reality, you need a new better PSU.

Hi, Thankyou for the info, i am in the process of buying a new psu (probably 750 or 800W) but this will take a few more months as i'm going abroad for a bit. In MSI Afterburner the adjuster is locked and i cant change it.

If the power system is locked there is nothing you can do.

You don't need 800w, a good 500w PSU should do the job for you.

ok, i understand. thankyou. I'm a bit conzfused as to why the total of 600W( x2 300w) isn't enough, but a single 500w is enough.

Because 2 poor quality 300w PSUs are not really equal to 600w. Also a 300w PSU isn't going to put out the amperage on the 12v rail that a 500w or 600w PSU will, so split to 2 and its not powering things properly.
