How to load a full version of win8 on a hard drive with win7 on it?

My old computer died, and I was using win7 oem as my os. I'm talking all of my salvageable parts and I'm going to build a new pc what's usable. I understand that I need to buy a copy of win8 for this new pc I'm building. But how do I install win8 on a hard drive that was formally used on another pc with win7 oem on it? In lay mans terms: How do I start this hard drive over?

during the windows install sequence you will have the option of chosing which drive to install to. on this same screen will be options to format the hdd first. this is what you want to do. format the hdd and then let windows install for a fresh clean start

keep in mind this WILL DELETE EVERYTHING ON THE DRIVE. so back up anything you want to save to some other drive.
