How do I make data transfer from dead laptop to new laptop using USB Cord?

Hi,

To be honest it won't work if it's a dead laptop using a USB cable. The only way to retrieve those files is to take the HDD off the old laptop and use an enclosure to make the HDD work as an external HDD and then you can just connect it to the new laptop and get any files you need from it.
