I have a HP Photosmart 5510 printer. It uses HP 564 printer cartridges.
I am using a Toshiba laptop with Windows 8.
I have a product named, "Premium Remanufactured Ink cartridge that I purchased from Fry's Electronics.
I received a message on the printer screen that said these are not genuine HP. I had the option of pressing OK, and continue. The printer test page has printed all colors except black. When I try to print in black only, the image is very faint, barely noticeable. I thought the problem may be the cartridge itself, so I exchanged it for another. I am still having the same problem.

Any help out there on how to correct this?
The instructions with the cartridges say to run a a different driver a "Generic PCL Laser Printer 1.3", but that is only if you are having trouble with a Mac Operating System, not Windows.

Thank you all in advance for your help.

Try and clean the printheads via the software. If that doesn't work there are countless cleaning kits on Ebay which have instructions enclosed. you could simply use a very little drop of cellulose thinners in the place gone dry then re-insert the cartidges and do a head clean again.
good luck
