Hi,

I have an older computer that runs Windows Vista and I'm looking to upgrade it to Windows 10.

My goal is to make an iso image of the Windows Vista installation before upgrading to Windows 10. This way, I will be able to still essentially use the Windows Vista installation (as it was before upgrading to Windows 10) on Windows 10 within the program VirtualBox.

My issue though is that I don't know how to do this. I figure that there must be some kind of free program that can though.

With that said, how do you make an iso image of a Windows Vista installation?

Is there a program that I can download and run on the Windows Vista computer that would let me make an iso image of the hard drive fairly easily? Again, my goal is to be able to use this iso file within VirtualBox once I upgrade the computer to Windows 10.

Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

Solution
well in Virtual Vm the ISO needs to be a install or Live CD format, which converting your HDD to ISO will not be.
What you need is converting your HDD to VDI, VHD, or VMDK format.

a good article on the subject is
