How to make SPDIF headphones work on this motherboard?

Hi everybody, I have a Gigabyte GA-Z87-DS3H motherboard and I want to connect Turtle Beach x41 headphones to it. The problem is that it uses a TOSLINK SPDIF cable so I bought this adapter: http://www.komputronik.pl/product_picture/6/ADADELTOS65272/Adapter_Delock_Toslink_mini_m%C4%99ski_Toslink_standard_%C5%BCe%C5%84ski-1b76c9b8.png
From what I've read, it converts this: http://www.xtreme-technology.com/shop/images/toslink%20optical%20cable.jpg into a regular 3,5mm jack. Unfortunately, it does not work for me. I know that my motherboard supports SPDIF IN and OUT but how do I make it work?

Hello,

That jack-to-Toslink adapter you bought can be used with some laptops and discrete sound cards (they have a combined digital + analog jack plug).

Your motherboard has SP-DIF output, situated in the lower left on your motherboard (next to Front audio header) , but in order to use it you must purchase a separate bracket:

You can use the headphones in analog mode, but for that you need an 3,5-male to 2,5-female jack adapter (the PC audio outputs are 3,5mm ones, the headphones' one is 2,5mm)...

On the base it says "Digital IN" and "OUT" (which would be the TOSLINK socket) as well as "Line In". Before when I used this headphones with X360 I just connected the Digital IN with a special adapter for the console and it worked fine.

So does it mean that I bought this little adapter for no reason and all i need is an RCA splitter? But this will not give me good sound quality will it?

Yes, that's true but I used x11 before and they were working great until just about a week ago when the right ear stopped working. Now all I have is the x41 and since I can't afford to buy a new proper PC headset right now I really want to somehow adapt it for my PC. In the first video the guy plugs the TOSLINK adapter thats the same as mine into the glowing optical jack on his laptop. Unfortunately it looks like that I dont have such a socket on my motherboard which means I will need to try the RCA splitter solution which gives stereo but no surround effect.

What confuses me though is how do I connect the transmitter to the PC? Do I even need to do it after I connect the headphones?

Ah now I see why the adapter didn't do anything. Thank you for the reply
