How to make the internet connection inactive

Hi there. Don't know here else in your forum to post this. Got an internet connection via usb adapter. How can I get it to be inactive? My laptop cannot be put to sleep without crashing. Long story... I don't want to spend the time figuring out why. So I just put the display and the hard disk to sleep; but the wireless adapter stays on. Is there a way to make it 'sleep', too? Thanks in advance.

You can try to disable it in device manager or network connections, then enable it when you want it on, see if that kills the lights.
