How to: Motherboard drivers + OS install?

I am building my computer this weekend, and I have a MSI motherboard.

I am not entirely sure how to go about install the OS properly, so I have come here.

So far, this is what I think I have to do, and I ask for clarification from anyone who may know what they're doing to confirm if I am either right or wrong.

1. After building the computer, turn it on, go into BIOS and check if everything is correct.

2. Select boot drive to the optical drive, insert operating system CD (in my case, Windows 8.1)

2. Install the OS to the SSD.

3. Install the motherboard + graphics drivers I assume?

This is where I need help, how do I install the motherboard drivers? How do I know which ones to install as there seem to be many? On MSI's website, there are multiple options, such as "BIOS" "DRIVERS" "UTILITY" etc. it looks like I have to go to "Drivers"

Do I simply just pick the most recent driver file and it will install automatically for me? Or is there a process of which I need to follow?


So how do I go about installing drivers, the CORRECT drivers at that, and how do I find out which ones to specifically pick?

I already know how to install GPU drivers.

your motherboard should have come with a driver CD containing all the drivers and utilities for it. Are you reusing an old one?

You can use the CD drivers but they will be outdated. To get the latest just download from the Drivers category. It will be the most recent shown. Remember to pick the drivers that are for Window 8/8.1. Utility is optional so look at what you actually need.

It's a new motherboard, but I fear the CD has old drivers that will not provide optimal motherboard functionality?

I suppose that's the only place I have to look considering motherboard drivers? Will it just easily install without complication?

Yes, it is easy as it comes in an installer.
Also here is a tip,
Download all the drivers onto a separate USB or somewhere on a different storage so when you need to reinstall Windows you don;t need to redownload the drivers or use the CD drivers.
