Hey guys, I have a 500gb wd black and its starting to get a bit sluggish and has crashed on me a bunch of times. I am concidering getting a ssd to put my os on and using it for extra storage. Is there a way I can install my win 8 disk and 1-time-use code on the new ssd and be able to upgrade to 10 for free? Or do I need to purchase a new win10 usb?

Thanks!

In that case, you should be able to install Windows 8 on the SSD from the disc, and then use your current product key.
This will usually require phone activation with Microsoft, as the key will register as being 'already in use', however the activation over phone does not take long

I used this on my main PC about 2 years ago, and have had no issues with activation.
Most SSDs come with some form of disk migration software, allowing you to move your Windows installation from the HDD to the SSD without needing a new Windows license.

I would suggest a 120GB SSD at the absolute minimum, as it will have enough space for your Windows installation and most of your programs. A 250GB SSD would provide enough space for you to also install 1-2 of your most played games on the SSD.

You will have to make sure that the amount of storage used on the HDD is the same or less than the SSD you get (you may have to delete some things to do this), otherwise the migration will not work.

I honestly don't want to do a migration because my computer now has some administrator issues I also hope to fix with a fresh install and most to all of my stuff is prebacked up on external hdds over time.
