how to move seagate data to mac

I saved all my data from my macbook pro to my seagate hard drive. I'd like to put it on my IMac. When I do this a bunch of files come up with names I don't understand. I have a mess of pictures that I'd like to put into iPhoto and don't know how. Some files have a few pictures but not all of them. I also have projects from iPhoto I'd like to put on my iMac that I can't find on the seagate hd.

How did you save it there? sounds like it wasn't saved in a organized manor. To me it might be better to go back to the MacBook, use the Time a capsule backup, and just backup your photos and files you need and not everything else then restore them to your iMac. Is your iMac new or have you been using it for a while?
