How to name the user folder during installation?

I'm just about to re-install my Windows 10 PC and I'm well aware that my user folder will not be given my username but a short version of this. Now my desired username is 7 characters long and if I'm correct the user folder will always get the first 5 characters as a name.

Changing the user folder name after installation is complicated and I want to avoid it if possible. Any way I can do this?

Solution

Exactly. None of my Win 10 machines have a MS account as a daily user. All local accounts.
Its actually simpler to follow this advice after install:

This can be done without folder renaming and messing with registry:

Create a local account with the user name you wish.
Change account type to administrator (can skip if there is other administrator).
Remove original Microsoft linked account
Link local account to Microsoft account if you wish
Local account creation is well hidden, here are step through Settings App :

Settings > Accounts > Family & Other users > Other users > Add someone else to this PC > The person I want to add doesn't have an email address > Add a user without Microsoft account

http://superuser.com/questions/890812/how-to-rename-the-user-folder-in-windows-10

it takes first 5 letters from email address so if you don't link one, it won't do it.

You can also set up a local account during the install process: See step 24 here: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

Excuse me?
User folder names of 9 letters and 8 letters

From my Win 10 Pro install.

So all I would have to do is skip the Microsoft account linking step, set up a local account thus generating a user folder of my actual username and link the Microsoft account later, right?
