How to open files

I transferred my files from an old PC to a new one, and now all my files look like this, for ex. ~$ecture.docx is there a way to open my files or is all hope lost?

Right click them and choose open with then try opening them with a word processor like microsoft office word or open office.

If you have a google account you could also try opening them with google docs online.

They haven't copied across properly. Did you use some migration software to do this? What?

The easiest way to transfer documents across from one computer to the other is with a portable usb drive. Just copy and paste all the files on to the usb drive and then use the usb drive to put them into the new computer.

Another option is if you still have the hard drive from the old computer you can plug it into your new one.

Have both of your PCs been running Windows?
