How to open Iomega external HD case?

I have an old Iomega 40gb external hard drive and I would like to
replace the hd with a larger one, but I am having trouble opening the
box. I removed the 3 screws, but it will not open. Is there a special
trick? I don’t want to force it open because I’m afraid of cracking
the plastic case.

Thanks!

I've never seen one of those drives, but just in case it might give
you some ideas, here is a website with instructions for opening an
Iomega Zip drive: http://www.accesszone.com/clickdeath/

I had an Iomega external CDR case that I swapped the drive out in.
IIRC, it had some internal plastic tabs along the sides that locked
the top half to the bottom half that were accessible through small
slots along the seam between the halves. You had to push through the
slots with a small screwdriver.

It was still difficult to get them all loose at once, and I believe I
broke one off in the process, but it's been a while.

I also swapped HDs in an external Maxtor firewire case, and the new HD
wouldn't even spin up, apparently due to a power supply with very
little design overhead. The old HD still works fine in it.

I had a 1TB model and all I did to open the case is:
1. Remove the two screws on the back side; the side with all the connections.
2. Insert a putty knife between the two halfs and pry to disengage the snaps.

It ended up being very easy without anything breaking.
