How to overclock a i5 4690k?

I've done some research already but i'm still not sure how to do it.

I have intel i5 4690k, Asrock z97 extreme 3, 8gb ram @1600, and my cooler is a hyper 212 evo.

so if anyone has easier directions to follow that would be awesome.

1. Raise the multiplier in small steps from 35 on up. Leave all else on auto.
2. Stress test with occt. Note the vcore. When you get to 1.25v., that is about as high as you want to go. 1.30 max.
3. If you get too hot, occt will shut down the test and back off a notch.

what kind of performance gains could i see from lets say 4.4?

You will notice a big difference of permorfance whenver your computer is on max usage of your CPU, like rendering Full HD videos, playing games or using mathematical software, like matlab or mathematica wolfram. But if mostly of the time you are a basic user, you won't notice much difference and it won't be that worth to OC your CPU. If you don't need it, don't twitch.

Intel sells a "K" with the intention that it be overclocked.
It is not really overclocking, but raising the default multiplier from the default 35 to a higher number.
That will usually be in the 4.1 to 4.4 range with a conservative voltage.
That is a 15% to 25% benefit. A good deal.
That is what you paid for, so use it.
