How to overclock core2 duo 6300 with abit aw9d-max m/board?

I have this m/board with uguru overclocking software but I'm lost on how to go on with the overclocking process. can anyone help?
I understand that the c2duo chip 6300 is a outstanding overclock chip. Is this true?[/b]

it is but not so much on 975 as on 965.
It has a 7x multi & most 975s struggle to get much above 400 without serious cooling/volts etc. whereas there are a couple of 965 boards that go past 500 quite easily.

Follow wusys guide in the CPU OCing forumz letter by letter.
Your mobo somewhat limits your overlock ability but its more up the cooling and RAM I guess.

I don't know why you say the 975 can't OC as well as the 965 since the best Conroe board is the P5W-DH, which of course is the 975X chipset...

Only thing the P5B can do is change multipliers... but even with that a better OC isin't guaranteed...

And which 965's can get past 500 with ease? Show some links.

Actually no. The P5W DH has a 450Mhz cap in the BIOS, so dont expect to it to have a joyful time reaching even 400Mhz.
While the P5B Deluxe has a 650Mhz (and a slew of votage changes) and the DS3 a 700Mhz one. These two boards have hitted the, inexistent for P5W DH, 500Mhz barrier:

Done on a Tuniq Tower 120.

And search the General Discussions Forums for a guide on 3Ghz for $600 or something. He hit 500Mhz on a E6300 (surprinsingly with 675 Corsair) on STOCK cooling 8O

Many mobos now a days can change mutipliers (DS3, DQ6, Abit) with their latest BIOS updates.

The best 975X mobo ive seen is the Abit AW9D-MAX, with a BIOS limitation of 600Mhz, so my guess would be it can reach ~450Mhz. As you see the 975X chipset has been left for mild OCing and Crossfire enthusiasts.

because most stock 975s struggle to get past 420 or so (highest that I've seen was ~500 but that was a modded board) whereas some stock 965s do over 500. Booting at 450 on a 975 with a stable overclock is a relatively rare experience.
Gigabyte S3, DS3/DS4/DQ6/; Asus P5B series, Biostar Tforce 965 etc.
I think that most people would probably give the P5WS64 the title of best 975 with the Aw9D & PW5DH tying for 2nd depending upon your requirements.
