Since I'm a total noob, I'd greatly appreciate insight / guidance on how to overclock i7 2600K 3.4 GHz on Asus Maximus IV Extreme Rev 3.0? I just installed Noctua NH-U12S CPU Cooler which should address the cooling issue but I have no idea what I'm doing in terms of actually OC the CPU in BIOS. I believe others with similar setup were able to put this CPU at 1.45 volts and OC it to 4.8 GHz - unfortunately I have no idea how do it on my machine.

Appreciate any insight you can offer,

yes stuff like that is a good place to start

luckily now adays with you tube etc its easy to get/see what you want to learn things

you have a great cpu for overclocking and good cooler so got the most important things

if the guides start getting too complicated just start with multiplier and cpu voltage that will get you pretty far

before you would need to go near the other stuff in the bios might even get you to where you want with out touching any thing else

just the luck of the draw how good your cpu is but with 2600k there werent really any bad overclockers

just very good and even...
plenty of guides on the net to do it

but i wouldnt risk 1.45v

i had one at 5ghz for 5 years before i sold it and didnt go any where near 1.45v

was around 1.35v though i had a very good chip

but personally nothing over 1.4v would be my opinion

and why a 1200w psu for that setup?

Google is not necessarily my friend here but maybe I'll get lucky this time. As for the PSU I had this set up for quite some time - PSU was suggested to me at the time to deal with the old computer crashing in Crysis 2 I believe in certain cutscenes LOL Oddly enough it did do the trick.

start by just raising the multiplier untill its unstable

then small voltage increases

up to around approx 4.6ghz---4.7ghz or just above /below each chip is different that will work

was the last 200/300mhz or so i had to start tweaking other stuff to get to 5ghz thats when a good guide is useful

Thanks for the tip but as I mentioned I'm a total noob so I don't know what it means - i.e. where to go in BIOS to make these changes. I'll try Youtube. Thanks!
