Hi!

So I was trying to overclock my cpu, and so far I went from 3.2Ghz to 3.78 with 56+- ºC at 100% load. I've seen numerous people doing 4GHZ+, but once I try x40 multiplier and 105bclk, I save and restart, and it goes back to x38 and 100. Anyone know why?
(I have an i5 3470+Asus p8z77-v lx+ ddr3 1333mhz)

Any help would be much appreciated :).

You can only do +4 on the multiplier with a non-K CPU. That would be 36+4=40x only for 1 core loaded for a 3470. The 2,3,4 cores loaded multipliers will be lower than that. The 4 core loaded multiplier is 34x at stock (34+4=38x). So presumably, the 2&3 cores loaded may be 35x or something.

Your mobo should allow you to set "all core" (where you'll be limited to 38x) and "per core" multipliers (where you could do 40x - 39x - 39x - 38x).

I set my 3770 multipliers to per-core, but it's very rare that ONLY 1 core will be loaded at a given time (all it takes is the smallest background process to kick in). And if it is, the workload probably doesn't need the extra 200MHz anyway.

Might be just better to get a 2700k , 2600k or 3770k, you need bios update for the ivy bridge cpu (do it before replacing the cpu). Used processors are usually fine too, these all have unlocked multiplier meaning you can keep the BLCK at 100, "k" means unlocked.
