How to pickup Xfinity hotspot 1,000 ft away?

Hi there,

We live in a home that does not have cable. Actually there isn't cable on our road, BUT the road behind us has it. I'll save the stupidity of Comcast/Xfinity convo for another time.

ANYWAYS, I drove down the road behind us and with my iPhone I was able to detect the homes behind me had Xfinity Wifi hotspots. I can log into one of these with my work account so that part is not the issue. The issue is there is about 1,000ft of distance between said house and my own. There are also lots of trees in the way. The good news is I can see a light that is on at their house through the woods and we are on a hill and they are more below us.

What I am trying to do is figure out a way to tap into that hotspot. My Asus PCE-AC56 AC1300 card can't pick it up. I could however potentially cut the distance as we own about half the land that is behind us. So I could run a very long wire through the woods cutting the distance down to about 500ft.

Anyone have any good ideas on how to achieve this? We have satalite internet, which is TERRIBLE. So being able to get some decent speed (and lower than 800ms latency) would be great!

Thanks!

My guess is it will not be possible but I suppose you can try.

What you want to try to use is a outdoor bridge from a company like ubiquiti or engenius.

Normally to go the distance you want you must have a directional bridge on both ends and have clear line of sight. You it seems have neither. The trees will cause you large issues.

It is not outrageously expensive to try I suppose.

You are going to have trouble also if you need to go the 500ft. Ethernet can only go 100meters so you would have to use fiber to go that distance. I am going to assume you would have issues getting power that remote also.

On top of all this if it would degrade the neighbors internet by you using it they may call the cable company and have...

On top of all this if it would degrade the neighbors internet by you using it they may call the cable company and have them turn off the xfinity options. Every one I talk to about this feature pretty much calls the ISP immediately, it is bad enough trying to mange bandwidth usage with devices you control.
