Hey guys,

Excuse the slightly confusing title. Also, i couldn't find a better forum to post this, so decided the graphics card forum will have the best response.

So, in a nutshell, I am a Mac owner but love PC gaming. As it stands I use bootcamp to get windows on my mac. But its quite a tedious process to have to restart mac everytime i want to game... coupled with the fact my girlfriend gets desperate to play Ori all the time when I am trying to work on the Mac.

Anyway, I want a way to play PC games that don't include having to have a full blown computing station in the house (display, tower, desk and chair). Basically, I want to have it connected to the TV somehow. Last time i approached this subject several years ago, I did my research and "PC Consoles" were becoming a thing. Steam was releasing one but that is dead in the water now.

Entertainment PC's were also a thing. They were expensive, but loads of people were building them and they seemed to have a lot of hype - they were primarily aimed at movie watchers, but some had good graphics cards. However that doesn't seem to be a popular thing anymore either.

I checked out xBox Ones, because they started playing PC games with the PLay anywhere feature. But it only seems to be a select few games... and the wireless stream feature would still require a PC so that doesnt cut it either.

So... what can i do guys? My perfect solution, would be a discreet(ish) horizontal PC that can go in my TV cabinet. That could also double up as a personal server then and i could sell my current Mycloud server

Cheers

So you want a PC that can run through TV and fits in a TV Cabinet - I am sure there are still cases around that can hide in a tv cabinet and not be out of place. For example - https://www.silverstonetek.com/raven/products/index.php?model=RVZ03&area=en&top=S

the TV thing might depend on your TV having right connections.

Well the tv connection would only need an HDMI.. surely?

Yeah silverstone was the company i remember from years ago. So if that's still the main option, i guess I need to find a company building custom rigs using those cases.

Just build a SFF system that has wifi/BT for K/M & controller and a HDMI connection to the TV.

Budget? Games?

Whats a SFF system? Also i cant build systems, so do you know companies that do... or people that do in UK?

Budget isnt to much of an obstacle - although ideally i'd like to keep it under £600 as it won't be heavily used.

Gaming wise, mostly things that will play with a wireless xBox controller. Id liek the option of playing the highest end games - so graphics card would need to be quite good... although not insane. Probably a £100 - £150 card.

SFF=Small Form Factor.

I'm not aware of building services in the UK and I wouldn't advise getting a prebuilt as they cut corners. As long as the motherboard BIOS is up to date and you can find someone to built it I'd get this for your budget.

Why does a gaming rig needs to be always on? failed to disclose your other use for it?

But anywhoo, u seems to have changed your mind from "no PC" to "yes PC." Reset original thread premise.

Always on, because it can double up as my personal server too and I can sell my current server.

I said no "PC" with PC in quotes because i meant i dont want a stereotypical PC. (Tower, desk, chair) - for all i know there might be a Windows based gaming console out there. I have no clue so was leaving it quite open to ideas.

But as this thread developed, it seems that a SFF PC is the way to go for me. So far at least
