How To: Portable LAN?

I spend 3 hours a day on the bus going to my charter school with my friends, and we would like to know if there are ways to make a LAN so we can play games like Terraria together. We play games on our windows 7 laptops, and have an ethernet cord if that will do anything. Thanks.

it could be possible to buy a USB powered 10/100 network switch that you can take with you. All of you plug in via cat5 patch cords, configured your nic cards all on the same network and you guys can play LAN games. (still have access to the web too through your wireless cards if wi-fi is available).
Someone would have to sacrifice some battery life by powering the switch when on the bus but hey! its on the road LAN lol. example of one is HERE

Your laptops most probably have WiFi, create ad-hoc WiFi network between them, and ergo - you have connection!
