My External HD USB cable often loosens or disconnects when I reposition my laptop. Sounds crazy, but how could I attach the external HD to front lid of laptop. Any other suggestion for easier solution than that?
I'd very much appreciate it.....Ron

okronk, does this problem present itself in other ports? If it does, then the drive needs to be changed. As for connecting the drive to the lid of the laptop sounds like you been playing too much Fallout. Not a good idea as it could detach itself and fall thus damaging your drive even further. Would not be a a bad idea either to back up your information just in case.

Basically you want:

3 copies of any data you don't want to lose
2 different mediums it's stored on (so 2 different drives in your computer, for example)
1 copy kept offsite, to prevent against disaster.

Best of luck.

Sounds like you are not using something properly if your drive is disconnecting. External drive should be used for backups, not for keeping it connected all the time. If you need something for storage, a better thing would be a NAS connected to the network that does not move. Or get a longer cable at least and pay attention to how you are moving things.
