How to prevent NWN from accessing the Registry

Hello,
I need to know how to play NWN (HoTU) without the program accessing the registry. I've got it on a work computer FOR WHEN I TRAVEL (in the airport, etc) and NOT actually at work, but when it starts it of course asks for the admin password since it's trying to access the registry. I'm using Win 7. thanks.

OP, is this a properly installed version of the game?

Most games requires access to the Registry as part of the install process. If the game cannot write to the Registry, then the game cannot be installed at all.

However, in some rare instances games do not require the keys written to the Registry to actually exist for the game to run as long as the installed game exists on the hard drive.

For example, I typically install games on my D: Drive so when I install a fresh copy of Windows all the Registry keys for those games gets wiped out. Naturally, I tried to launch some of my existing games on my D: Drive to see if I can play any of them without going through the hassle of installing them. Only one game started up (King's Bounty: Armored Princess), the others had to be reinstalled (Fallout 3, Crysis 2 and GTA 4).

You can try to install NWN on a different computer, then transfer the entire directory to the laptop. Then you can try to launch the game. If it does not work, then there's no way to play it on your work laptop.

Civilization 4 is another game that can be installed on another computer and then copied to the laptop.

Keep in mind that you would still need the CD to play Civ 4 and the aforementioned King's Bounty: Armored Princess.

Oh yeah, Oblivion is another game that does not need any Registry keys for the game to work. You can copy that game directory from another PC and simply insert the DVD to play it.
