I have a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L....And i just bought 2 gigs of G skill 1066 (PC2 8500) Ram......And I currently have 2 gigs of Transcend 800MHZ ram.....and I was wondering how I should go about installing new ram...... What is the process to do this? Take old ram out, put new ram in, clear bios and then set timings if theyre not set? Or should i set them manually......Thanks for your help I would REALLY like to know before I wing it......

With the old RAM installed, go in to BIOS and set the voltage, speed and timimgs to the specifications of the new G. Skill PC28500. Shut down and install the new RAM.

BIOS for new RAM should look like :

RAM voltage = 2.1v
RAM speed (datatransfer rate) = 1066MHz.
RAM timings = 5-5-5-15

Adjust as necessary.

I am usually extra cautious. After shutting down your system I would unplug the computer from the power supply. Then after opening the case ground yourself but touching the case just to make sure you have no static discharge that might damage anything. If you are not sure which slots to use look at your MB manual.

LOL never mind boulard83 beat me to it.....good luck.

ok so should i wait for my GIGABYTE screen to pop up after setting all ram voltages and stuff, THEN when the screen comes up I hold my power button and turn it off, then put new ram in?......like just set voltages and timings, save, wait for gigabyte start up screen, turn off comp, unplug power, put new ram in, put power in and try it?

would it actually be a better idea to put my timings to 5-5-5-15 manually and keep the voltage auto and mhz at 800...then put in new ram, and set the voltage to 2.0V manually and then put the ram to 1066 so i KNOW it will boot with my current ram cause its still 800 mhz. Would that make more sense?

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP EVERYONE!!!!! ALL I did was take my old ram out, put 1 stick of the 2 in and start my comp. I didnt even change any bios settings before hand I just put the 1 stick in and it booted right up!! 2.11V, 1066, 5-5-5-15 and then i got to my desktop, CPUZ verified it and restarted my comp and put the 2nd gig in and its running perfectly!!!! THANKS EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!
