How to put "time limits" for internet on my own computer.

We get 60 GB of satellite garbage a month after we moved 🙁 (RIP my CoD knife skills). My dad gripes about ever GB spent. What's the best way to moniter my own useage and then put limits on my pc so even when I'm away I don't have to worry about data leaking?

I may need to download large files and games after midnight (Data isn't counted from midnight to like 5 AM), but make sure it turns off before the morning (but I'm not allowed in the office after like 10 PM)

I dowloaded Glass wire to check my useage. But how can I set caps on time? (My dad is NOT going to share the router password/settings)

i know some routers have parental controls where you can set it to a certain IP address and give a length of time where it can cut off net access. with desktop computers it can be difficult because your OS, and other programs are periodically checking for updates and if you have windows 10 you can't disable windows updates

"(My dad is NOT going to share the router password/settings)" . That's what I meant. I know about the parental controls and I can't access them to meter myself.

wll then ther only other way would be to phically unplug from the net or disable your network card everytime

I thought of that. But if I go to bed at 11 and have a steam update pending and at midnight it kicks on, I want it to auto disable connection when my data starts being counted again and I can't be camped out on my PC until I see the sun come up (Not that I haven't done that before, but I try not to make it a habit)

Why not just auto-shutdown the computer at 4.50AM?
Don't even need software for that, just set the shutdown in 'run'

As for capping the downloads...some network chips got a software that lets you do that but I don't know any specifics unfortunately

This may be too much, but if you know a little about batch scripiting you can do just that, setting timers to enable/disable your network or shutdown your PC.

Or, you can create a Windows Scheduled Task (taskschd.msc or Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools\Task Scheduler) with a trigger as the specified time to shut the network down and turn it on.

That way, you don't need to touch the router configuration as everything will be made inside the PC.

Try Networx free edition (i.e. before version 6).

I have another idea. Though I just might set a shutdown as well. I can hook up my router to a time limit device, where you set lights (or anything else that plugs into it) to come on or off based on the times you set. If my router has no power, then bam. I can set 30 minute intervals in a 24 hour format.

I did do the batch file (.bat with the rasdial thingamajig) to no avail. Perhaps it was a simple typo. Perhaps it is not working for a different reason. But the long and short of it, I don't think that route will yield the sucess I am looking for.
