I got a new laptop and it's got Windows 10 pre installed...and before I even so much as access the internet I want to rip out the HDD and install a Solid State drive I have coming...so what should I do?....1) download all the security updates and new drivers (using iobit driverbooster) to the original hard drive and then created a "backup" on USB using windows recovery thing...or should I install the drivers after I swap out the hard drive or what....or do I need to use the SSD "cloning" software to reinstall windows on the SSD drive?

Solution
most new laptops now have a restore partion on them to make a set or a iso of the image on the laptop. see if you can make a usb restore disk.if not for a small amout of money buy the vendor restore disk. with windows there two version vendor oem and retail. when you download windows 10 from ms it expects to see a retail code. if you try and use the laptop oem code it might not take it. also with the windows 10 image from ms it not going to have any of the vendor software or drivers pre loaded for you.

That's exactly why he needs to activate first. After that, you don't need a key code, it'll just activate automatically.
