How to Record 1080p60fps Gameplay on PC w/ Fraps without lag?

2 Sata HDD 1TB
16GB RAM
MSI r9 280 Gaming 3G
Windows 10

I have Fraps, and I have been trying to record games in a high quality without dropping below 60fps in game and have no skips. Unfortunately, just when it's working, somehow it doesn't last.

I have another internal hard disk drive devoted to recording only (1TB), but for some reason even that is not affecting performance enough to help me.

That's likely because when it's "working", it's during a less graphics demanding part of the game, then frames drop when you get to places that are. It could be that you have your settings too high though. The R9 280 is not that powerful. I run a 7970, same card as a 280x, and there's lots of games I have to turn down settings quite a bit.

To put it another way, I would not even attempt to capture at 1080p60 with that GPU, let alone via the capture tool most known for lag, Fraps. I often capture in 1080p on my 280x, but at only 30 FPS, and even then, I use DxTory with 3 HDDs writing the capture file simultaneously, which substantially increases FPS while recording. Often times zero FPS drop.

As far as I know, DxTory is the only capture tool with which you can use multiple drives to write the capture file (Distribution Writing), and can record two audio streams, which is why it's used a lot by those adding video commentary. It also costs only a little bit more than Fraps, even though it has WAY more features.

If you seriously got worse performance in DxTory, I really doubt you were setting up Distribution Writing properly.

Well damn you don't have to be so damn rude lmao. I record almost smoothly with Fraps thank you very much, it's just inconsistent and has random fps drops.

I followed that video with every detail, except I put on 60fps. Clearly that program is for half-wit recording, excuse me for wanting something other than 30fps..

There's nothing rude about what I said, you just can't handle being told the truth.

I have videos of DxTory being able to record Metro 2033 @ 720p with max textures (the original not redux version), using just a GTS250, with plenty playable frame rates. Fraps can't manage anywhere NEAR that.

Again, it's not DxTory at fault, it's your weak GPU, and likely errant settings. You haven't even said what game you're trying this with. My guess is it's one that cannot handle such settings without problems.

Anyways, I'm done wasting time, because you think you know it all, but clearly you don't. I don't know why you even bothered making a help request thread about it. Totally in denial.

Use OBS with QSV it will use your iGPU to record, intel iGPUs have special hardware to encode h264 and OBS itself has a small CPU overhead so if you can get 60FPS without recording you will get 60 FPS with this method.

Fraps and Dxtory use their own proprietary codecs or do raw recordings both methods have huge overheads either on CPU or on (hdd) I/O

Actually you can do the same thing with DxTory if you install the software for it and have a GPU that can hardware encode with it.

Also, DxTory has nowhere near the overhead of Fraps when using Distribution Writing, IF it's set up properly that is.

Fraps is so outdated compared to DxTory that it doesn't even factor in anymore.
