how to record gameplay at 200+fps?

hi, recently i have started a youtube channel for slow motion videos from games such battlefield 4 , mirrors edge, sniper elite, etc.
I started recording with fraps, that recorded at 1080 at 120 fps max, but with a few micro-freezes. Then, i changed to Bandicam, i got the same rate (1080 - 120 fps ) but a lot smoother.
The problem is that id like to record at 200 or more fps (if more, better 😛 ) but im not able to find any other recording software that can do that.

youtube is anyway only 30fps😀 so there is reason why there isnt any prog that records higher than 120 fps cuz it would be pointless if you rec at 120 fps and slow it down to 60-30 fps in adobe for example it would be smooth like silk anyway

slow motion --> i record at 120fps --> slow down 4 times (0,25x) --> final video its 30fps

thats why i want 240, for making videos at about 0,1x (like a shell jumping out of a sniper : P )

What app are you useing for rendering/editing im sure there are plug ins for that at least i know you can make insane slow motion with AE without picture tearing loseing frames

i tryed using twixtor in sony vegas, but i dont want to use any plugin, just the movie maker and the slow motion option works perfectly with my 120 fps videos. With twixtor and other addons, the videos can go from 120 to 15 fps, and the 15 fps left for 30 are taken from artifial effects that make it bull---- : P

im just looking for recording software that allows me to record at more than 120fps , not plugins or addons for external programs

Dxtory will go up to 240. You could also speed hack with cheat engine if it works on your game and use any recorder. Although with it already in slow mo when recording, it may be harder to play.

i had dxtory but i had the same problems than i had with fraps: the game gets micro-freezes that , when you reduce the speed for the slow motion, are big freezes.
But also ill check it again , so i didnt noticed the 240 fps :3 .

and i dont use vegas, i personally dont like it. Im using the windows movie maker, because all im doing now its cutting parts and putting em in slow motion, so i dont really need vegas, and movie maker do it well

Windows movie maker sux lol, its only meant for basic edit like making vocation video and so on i understand its easier to use but outcome is pretty bad/medicore

i said that im usin it for cutting and slowing down videos, if thats not basic...
i dont understand why the people keep saying that sony vegas/AE/other software its better.
A software is better if you need more functions. If i need to add effects and other stuff that need vegas or AE ill use vegas or AE but if i only need to do two basic things that can be perfectly done with movie maker, why shouldnt i use it?
the videos in my channel looks pretty good (at least for me) and they are completelly done with movie maker :/

Dxtory isnt an option anymore, i have a lot of issues with it :S
by first, when i select 240 fps in the video settings AND in the output settings, it doesnt record at that rate, because slowing down the video at 0,25x ( 1/4 ) it gets choppy. Also the movie maker have troubles with it, like lossing it :/

I've been pursuing high fps capture as well. I believe I've done more testing and have a solution. I have yet to test it.

I'll share it anyways.

In regard to your issue with Fraps and Dxtory being 'choppy' I believe the issue you're experiencing is due to insufficient HDD write speed.

Initially I tried to do 120fps capture with a Seagate 3tb .14 which has a 180MB/s sustained write speed. During my tests I realized that I had duplicate and missing frames. I tried out FRAPS and had better results, but still not truly 120fps.

After doing some analysis I realized that the bitrates needed for 120fps capture in 1080p far exceeded the sustained write speed of a single HDD. The falloff in write speed on the .14s goes to 150MB/s as it reaches the edges of the platter. My solution, yet to tested, is to place two 3tb .14s in raid 0.

I don't have any raw cap right now to do the math to determine if two HDDs in raid 0 is enough for 200+fps. Its important to note that the 3tb .14s use 1tb platters at 7200rpm. The new WDC Black 4tb matches the .14s. I don't know if the 2tb or 1tb do as well.

The type of content also contributes to the bitrate of the capture. My testing was done with Killing Floor and its not much for graphics. Something like BF will need higher bitrates.

Figuring out the write speed you'll need is simple. Get some 60fps capture of the desired content and use mediainfo to see the bitrate. You'll have to convert it from bit to byte (8 bits per byte) to understand how much write speed will be required at X fps.

There's more. One potential bottleneck is that of codec encoding speeds. I don't know how to accurately test for this myself. Some benchmarks have been done by others, but they're 'old' and development for codecs like UTvideo is ongoing. Even if one of those codecs is fast enough for capturing 1080@240fps, I'm not even certain they support framerates above 120.

im waiting for the solution for uploading more videos with a higher quality : P

i have a 120gb SSD that have a read speed of 550mb/s, and the videos that i recorded were written on the 1tb barracuda 12, so tomorrow ill test to record some videos directly to the SSD.
anyway, i have tested 120fps videos with fraps, dxtory and bandicam, and the best results that i got are from bandicam.
fraps gives some ¨little jumps¨ on the video, and when you reduce the speed its like a 1/2 sec stop. same happens with dxtory, and it also have a lot of compatibility problems with software like vegas pro and movie maker, so i dont want it anymore XD
if you are planning to record slow motion videos, i recommend you bandicam, but the only problem that it have, is the 120 fps limitation.

The .12 wouldn't have any near enough write speed. The 'jumps' are likely dropped frames.

I did some testing to see how well my .14s in Raid 0 work. I tried Lagarith/UTvideo/Dxtory in yv12, as well as fraps in yv12, and neither option could record at 120fps.

However, when I increased color depth with YUV24 and RGB, the bitrate redlines at the benchmarked maximum write speed. With yv12 codecs in dxtory/fraps bitrates are about 1400-1600Mbps. With full RGB it hit 2400-2500Mbps.

The bottleneck is someplace other than HDD write speed. My 16GB of RAM was only at 7gb. My 2500k@4.6ghz was 25% CPU from KF. My GTX 570 was pushing out 200+fps althought its vram was maxed out. I plan on upgrading to an R9 290/X when the aftermarket coolers come out. Hopefully vram is the bottleneck.

I still need to do further testing to rule out HDD write speed as a potential bottleneck. I only did a quick format on the raid 0 array. It might also be, for whatever reason, that neither dxtory nor fraps are able to fully benefit from raid 0. I'll separate the .14s and test that out with dxtory's raw cap.

I took the .14s out of raid. Did a full reformat on each to 64k blocks and then tried Dxtory's raw cap dual write feature. No improvement.

I made sure the .14s were healthy. Ran scans that would detect any bad sectors, then did a full format. I did some tweaking to the raid array and managed to increase the write benchmark DXtory runs from 320 MB/s to 380MB/s. Dxtory, Fraps, Lagarith, and UTvideo have the same level of performance, unfortunately. I'm quite certain the issue is not related to HDD write speed at this point.

I'll try to remember to update this thread when I find a solution.

Well, its not a ultrahigh end pc (like the ones with 2-3 titan black / 780ti) but i think its not a piece of shit
