How to record screen in Windows 8?

I am not asking about the applications that record my screen. I know a lot of them like ZD Screen Recorder, Camtasia, Microsoft Express Encode 4, Camstudio, Bandicam, Fraps etc. But I am trying to record a program or perhaps a media file in a .exe program when opened closes all the other applications like Google Chrome, Windows Explorer, Microsoft Office, Adobe and of course the Screen recording applications. But it fails to close software like Skype and Bit torrent. So, I would like to know if there is any software which can record things from background.

You cannot screen capture hidden programs if the program does not have a built in capture mechanism. The way screen capture programs work is that they read the display buffers, either directly or indirectly, for the software you want to record (or whole desktop). By being in the background, that software will have it's buffer overwritten by the next program if it's even allowed to add anything in the first place.
