How do I record my PS3 gameplay with the Elgato HD 60? I have seen videos on YouTube of people saying that using just a Sewell HDMI splitter will work, and others that say the The Splitter wont work and you Have to Get an HDMI to DVI cable and hook it up to the PS3 and a converter for DVI to HDMI and hook an Optical cable to the PS3 and the Converter box, and then the Elgato. Which way will work the best and is Cheap? I know I can't just straight hook up the PS3 to the Elgato because of the HDCP HDMI chip on the Console, yet the PS4 can turn it off. So how to I bypass HDCP for the PS3???

Solution
oh boy thats alot of rambaling.
there is no need for all of that confusing stuff, you just connect the PS3 with a regular HDMI cable to the input on the elgato, and then get another HDMI cable, and connect it to your monitor/TV. after that, connect the USB cable to your computer, and you're off to the races.

The PS3 has an HDCP chip inside that doesn't allow it to be that simple. Unless I'm missing something and you(or someone else) has done this first hand, it isn't that easy. I wish it was but Sony did that because they didn't want people to copy Blu-Rays and other things of that nature. And Remember, I said the HD 60, the new one. I also have a PS4 and Xbox 360 and plan to attempt to Record my PC with it as well as a little experiment. Also plan to get Xbox One eventually and Record it.

If you couldn't tell I'm starting a Youtube channel lol

of course you are, why would you want to record anyway?

I dont see how the PS3 will be the problem here, as far as it sees it, the elgato is the TV that it's connected to, and it will just pump the video out, and the elgato will capture it....

You can use the elgato as a pass through(I think) but because of the HDCP encoding, the Elgato software cannot Record the gameplay. It wont even show up on the PC screen
