How to recover a file that I accidentally saved changes on?

I tried the restore file method here:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/how-use-file-history

But there is nothing there because my file history "turned off", and when I attempt to turn it on, it says that there are no usable drives to turn it on.

Is there any other way I can get the previous version of the file back?

restore to a previos update u mght be able to retrieve it

^that will only restore 'the system' and not the files.

Have you emailed it to anyone? this is why saving with a version number is a useful tactic.

Huh?? A refresh (on Windows 8.1, 10), re-installs the operating system. It does not restore previous files. Especially files that have been saved over.

To the OP, follow 13thmonkey's advise in the future, because there's no recovering from your particular problem.

depends where its saved to as well 10 is good sometimes in finding files u saved check ur 1 drive as well could be a back up in it

The point of a restore to a previous point is to fix a bad installation etc. without touching your files.
