Question How to recover a large *permanently* deleted folder ?

So I deleted a large folder accidentally. It was too big to fit in the recycle bin. Best way to recover it? I understand the Windows store has Windows File Recover or some such. Problem is my passwords were stored in that folder. As a rule this computer isn't connected to the internet. I'm also afraid of a Windows tool making it worse.

It seems a strait forward thing using a Linux live cd. Trouble is I'll have to turn the computer off. Will this _not_ be an issue for Linux? IOW will the folder and all it'a files be recoverable with Linux' built in tools?

If a spinning rust drive AND it was shut down immediately then there is at least a chance of salvaging some of it.

However, if it's an SSD you can kiss that data goodbye thanks to garbage collection.

This is why we preach backups.

Damn. It was stuff offloaded from my phone on to an SSD in an Asus notebook. I usually always back up everything but somehow neglected to this time. Oh well live and lose.
