How to recover corrupted external hard disk and save stored files

Hello,i have stored so many files in external hard disk but now when i try to open its showing a message to format the disk,if i do so i will loose all my important files and pics..

Look in disk management to verify drive letter, file system etc.
You may have to recover partition & files
Search online for data recovery software to download.

http://www.easeus.com/download.htm there is a free version of he recovery software from them that works well.

Don't keep only a single copy of your files on the external drive, use the external drive as a backup of files on your computer. Or backup the files on the external drive somewhere else at least.
