A few days ago I formatted my pc, not the first time I've done it. I have 3 hdds, 2 internal and one external. I was a bit paranoid with backing up, so I backed up my main hdd on the external. However my paranoia just clouded my mind and I totally forgot to back up the second drive. I realized that after I formatted. However I had deleted all partitions during the format and installed the OS on the disk I had backed up so nothing was wiped from the second one. Using Lazersoft's recovery program I recovered the old partition and got my files back no problem. Today I decided to make my external drive internal. I thought to back it up before doing it but for some reason I was getting errors while trying to do that, windows explorer crashed once or twice. I did manage to start the transfer, it was about 20 gigs of data, but the drive uses usb 2.0 and it was taking forever. I got impatient and a bit cocky and I thought that since I'd already managed to recover data once, I could do it again should the need arise. I got it out of it's casing and removed the adapter and plugged it in, I could not access it without formatting it. I scanned it with the same program I used on the other disk but this time I did not find the files. Then I was messing around in the computer management and created another partition, nowhere in the process did it say that the disk was going to be formatted. I could now use it but the data was not there. I am almost certain it was not been formatted since I never authorised something like this and the system always notifies you when it is about to format a disk. I've scanned it again, nothing. I took it out and put the usb adapter back, still can't read it. Currently I am scanning it with the program using the usb adapter but I don't know what good that will do. I am positive my data is still in there as there has been no new data on it besides the new partition. What can I do to recover them? Some are irreplaceable and important.
EDIT: I gave up and went through the process of making a new partition. Turns out it does format the drive when you do it so I formatted it at least once by accident. Oh well, not much point to it now.
