How to reduce volume of system sounds?

So I have my computer on 100% volume always due to having speakers and controlling the volume that way and wanted to know if theres anyway to reduce the volume of system sounds directly because anytime one of them happens it nearly blows my ear drums.

it will be easier to tell if you would be so kind and share your OS.
on windows 10 do one or both of the following:
1. just right click the volume icon and select Open Volume Mixer.
2. Settings -> Sound -> Other Sound Options

Was on windows 7 but just recently updated to 10

So I thought this actually fixed it until a windows 10 notification popped up and nearly blew my eardrums again. For whatever reason the notification sound is playing through my normal speakers and not as a system sound
