How to refresh a graphics card?

I'm not sure if I worded that properly, but a little while ago I posted here about a counterfeit GTX 650 card. It finally arrived today, but after plugging it in, my screen resolution is only hitting 1042x768, with no option to increase. I downloaded the lastest NVIDIA drivers. However, despite downloading them, the NVIDIA control panel is not showing up. I think I need to know the actual card and download the appropriate drivers. Does anyone know of a tool to "refresh" the card?

Run dxdiag to figure out what the computer thinks the GPU might be. Search for drivers and install.

So that basically tells me the computer doesn't think it's a GPU. Go to Device Manager and see if there are any unknown devices.
