Hi there,

i have HTS25050A9A364 Hitachi 500 gb, it was at first on laptop then i used it as external disk over USB until bad sectors popped up because of not using "safely remove the drive" from windows... hard disk can not be seen by windows anymore, and i can not format it with Linux live CD. When i want to manipulate with the drive with hard disk tools it says that the drive is locked by ATA password.
Is there a way to remove this password and format the drive? i do not need to keep the data on the disk...
thanks

It has nothing to do with the password and drives don't develop bad sectors from being improperly ejected.
The drive is failing so the only question remains is if you want the data or not?
If not you need to replace it.
